Groundhog Day/GHOSTBUSTERS!

Hello, Humans!  How are y'all doing these days?  Today is Groundhog Day, as you know, and I hope you have all seen the movie by the same name?  Did you know that Harold Ramis wrote the screenplay for both "Groundhog Day" AND the original "Ghostbusters" movies?  (Not only a writer but a comedian, director and actor, he played one of the original ghostbusters, the one with the glasses, remember that one?)  Sadly, he died in 2014.  This past weekend, Richard and I watched the recent Ghostbusters movie that was made with women having the leading roles.  I thought it was hilarious!  Almost all of the original actors from the first Ghostbusters movie had cameo roles in the new film, and that was a very nice touch!  And I might have mentioned this to you before, and I promise I don't ALWAYS find a link to England but it does just seem to happen, but Harold Ramis won the BAFTA award for Best Original Screenplay for "Groundhog Day"! (BAFTA is like the British Academy Award.)

Funny thing, but I had a problem today at work and after spending quite some time on the phone with a help desk, I was told to call back TOMORROW and the problem should be sorted out by then (that is me paraphrasing since I use the word "sorted" because of my English husband!)   Of course, you know I just had to say, "Wait a minute, today is Groundhog Day, does this mean I am going to call back tomorrow and the next day and the next day and the next day, etc, etc, etc.?)  Now, you know I heard some laughter on the other end of the line!

I have been very busy at work just lately so I have not had much time for blogging.  Sometimes I just want to be with flowers, even if I have to go back in time to September and pretend I am in Eastbourne!  (Please note, I didn't stay at this lovely hotel, just walked up the steps and had Richard take my photo.  I have no shame!)
Happy Groundhog Day to you all!  (And by the way, the little groundhog doesn't matter that much to people in Georgia, we know we will have an early Spring!)

Oh! And guess what, you might not know this....there is a little thing called the SUPER BOWL on Sunday and it will be between the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots.
Go FALCONS!  Even my friends in Wisconsin MIGHT be cheering for them! :-)

I use the term 'sorted out', too, having an English grandfather..but throw a few bad words in from the Irish side of the family. lol

    1. Come on, Diana, bring out your red and black pom poms and lead a big cheer for the FALCONS! HA!
And the bad words, MY family must be on the Irish side!
Yes, my dear, I bet hotel owners in England must have me on a radar or something, "Here comes the crazy American who has to pose with flowers!" :-)

  2. Cute post..... I'm not surprised the the old groundhog said that we would have 6 more weeks of winter.... BUT--here in TN this winter, we have had almost NO winter this year....We NEED some winter NOW ---so that the early spring flowers don't start budding... I remember when this crazy weather happened in 2007.. The flowers budded and bloomed --and then we had a killer freeze... Lost so much beauty that year.... Hope that doesn't happen this year....

    Hugs,
    Betsy

    1. Hey Betsy!
Yesterday, we saw daffodils and tulip trees in bloom, and we hope they will be okay too. After such a long summer, I was kinda hoping for a cold winter, but it has not happened yet!
      Hugs to you too!

  3. It DOES look hilarious, Kay! (Not you on the steps there, but the new Ghostbusters movie!)

Those flowers are fantastic! The hotel should consider renaming itself from Palm Court (no palms I can see) to Flower Front Porch or something like that :-)

I've never seen "Groundhog Day", can you believe it? But I know of the movie. In Germany, Groundhog Day is not observed, but we certainly do get our portion of "groundhoggy" experiences when dealing with help desks!

    1. The Palm Court hotel in Eastbourne...I didn't tell you, but just looking into the front lobby of the hotel, there were comfortable chairs and book lined walls, like a library in an English country house. My kind of place!
You MUST see Groundhog Day! Promise me you will! Both of those movies are funny and you know me, I love to laugh, as everyone should! :-)

  4. Happy Groundhog Day, Kay! I've seen that latest Ghostbusters too and thought it was hilarious. It was fun to see Dan Akroyd in it too.

    1. Yes, and I hoped you watched the end credits, because that is where some of the stars from the first movie had cameos.
Aloha, Kay! Hope you and Art and your Mom are well. x

  5. I love flowers too, took a trip yesterday to visit Massee Lane Gardens nearby, it's 10 acres of beautiful Camellia's.

  6. Ha, did not know it was Groundhog Day, thank you for letting us know. Our family grew up loving both those movies, and we often quote Groundhog Day to each other. Such fun! What a lovely picture of you among the flowers.

    1. Yes, I love how Harold Ramis wrote such a funny movie connected to Groundhog Day! We also quote movie lines to each other in our family, anyone else listening to us might not know what we are talking about unless they have seen those movies! LOL.

  7. I liked the 'new' Ghostbusters too, though nothing can beat the original. I can quote large portions of that one. Harold Ramis had quite the writing talent for sure. Love the picture with the flowers. Yes, Groundhog Day - I told my daughter that she jinxed us as she complained yesterday that winter never really came to Texas this year so who cared about 6 more weeks of it. And then today - it won't get out of the 40's (which is winter to us as we've been having temps in the 70's). Have a good weekend!

    1. Ha, ha...Kay, the cold weather coming in is all YOUR fault!
I didn't say but the first Ghostbusters was written by also written by Harold Ramis (and Dan Akroyd!) Very funny men!
Hope you have a good weekend too!

  8. Hope you had a nice Groundhog Day. It's one of my favorites, since i don't have to buy anything or cook anything, just celebrate!

    1. Yes, I love a day when you just look at the calendar and say, "Oh, I wonder if the groundhog will see his shadow today?" AND that is all you have to do!

  9. To be honest I've never seen Groundhog Day. I know the basic plot though, and I think that's the reason I haven't seen it. There are a few movies like that for me; everyone says they're great but I haven't watched them because I know what's going to happen.

    1. Now Mark, I know that I might be considered a "bossy boots" (another English expression I know that no one says here) but PLEASE watch the movie Groundhog Day! Even if you know the plot, it is worth watching, I promise! Besides, the leading lady is from South Carolina, and she is so pretty and sweet and has such a nice accent, just like ALL the women from the South, ha ha!

  10. Go Falcons indeed, time to show the rest of the county how great Georgia is.

  11. Happy Groundhog Day! You have a great sense of humor. I love flowers, too, and recently my son got a bit carried away and bought two trays of primroses from home depot. The plants were only 99cents each. He gave lots to me and each of his sisters. I love primroses and the yellow ones usually have a delicious scent. this year some of the red ones did, too. As long as you keep them well watered and dead-headed they bloom for months. Then you can plant them outside and they are perennial.

    1. Well, only the most INTELLIGENT people get my sense of humor, Kristi! HA!
I LOVE the sound of those primroses. I wonder, have you seen the photos of the flowers from Arabia Mountain on my blog? We were pleased to find they were in the primrose family, called sundrops! Just gorgeous!

    1. Now, Graham, the first Ghostbusters movie was like a love letter to New York City. (They made a Ghostbusters II, but it wasn't as good.) The recent Ghostbusters movie, with women in the leading roles, was much better than I thought it would be, and to me, it was like a love letter to the original Ghostbusters!
There, how is that for spreading some love around?

  14. I loved the new Ghostbusters movie too. My faves were Kate McKinnon, who reprised Harold Ramis' crazy inventor character, and Chris Hemsworth as the ditzy receptionist. And Harold Ramis was Canadian, just as an additional bit of trivia.

    1. OH! I should have mentioned Chris Helmsworth, I thought he was GREAT in that role, so funny! (I also loved him in the film, "In The Heart of the Sea". Just brilliant!)
Now, I did NOT like Kate McKinnon in that role, we will have to disagree on this one, can't put my finger on why I didn't like her, maybe couldn't help comparing her to the brilliance of Melissa McCarthy, I am not sure.
I didn't mention it, but of course, Harold Ramis was from Canada as are many actors that people just don't know! (Remember from Canadian Bacon where they showed the pictures of all the famous actors from Canada? Funny thing, they couldn't show a photo of John Candy, because he was the star of that movie!) Oh man, I miss John Candy, talk about being funny.

    2. Oddly enough, "Canadian Bacon" was on TV just last week so I watched it again. It's such goofy fun! I miss John Candy too. He was brilliant and gone much, much too soon.

  16. I'll be watching the Super Bowl (Monday morning Aussie time). I always watch it, and have done for years. My ex lived in New York for nigh on a decade before we married, so upon his return to Aus, he introduced me to the game and we always made a big thing of it. Hot dogs and the works!

    1. Lee, I hope you will be cheering for the Atlanta FALCONS!
I didn't mention this but can you believe it, I once had season tickets for several years for the Falcons in the late 1970's. This was back in my single, sports loving days!
Now, I know you love good food. The BEST thing to go on a hot dog...some cole slaw and mustard, simple but very good!

    2. I always used to do hot dogs for the Super Bowl, Kay...with grated cheeses, fried onions and mustard, but for the past two years (including this one) I've not done it. I did cook some thin barbecue sausages though on the day before...and just had them cold on the day. (It was a hot day here...too hot for hot food). Sorry...but I was going for the Patriots! They had me worried for most of the game!!
