The Monkees-Good Times! "She Makes Me Laugh"

You might not have been around in the 1960's. Sorry if you were not, it was a BLAST!  I was a kid, so I really didn't know that much of the problems or the drugs associated with it, it was all just GOOD TIMES! And that is the name of the new album from THE MONKEES! They are now on tour celebrating their (gulp) 50th anniversary!  Sadly, Davy Jones died in 2012, I will miss his lovely voice and sweet charm.  (I wrote about him in one of my posts. I loved him so, when I married my Englishman, my cousin said to me, "Well, you finally got your DAVY JONES!")  Speaking of getting married, if someone were to ask Richard what could he ever see in me and why in the world did he ever marry me, I could just imagine him saying, "She Makes Me Laugh".   And hey, guess what, that is one of the new songs from THE MONKEES! (It was writtten by Rivers Cuomo, lead singer of Weezer.)

Hey! Richard and I will be celebrating our wedding anniversary this weekend!  The man is a SAINT, but if you have been reading my blog and know us at all, you might have guessed that already! HA!

  3. I loved the Monkees and loved their TV show. When I watch reruns I can't believe how silly and cheesy they were, but it sure was fun! I'm glad I grew up in the 60's and I'm also glad I bypassed the drug culture...just not my style! Happy Anniversary! You both are adorable!

    1. It is a good song! And thank you! We do plan on doing something special, and you know it involves hiking up a mountain (or the tallest one we can find in Georgia anyway!)

  6. I love the Monkees and used to watch all the re-runs (too young to see them when they first came out) and even bought the old vinyl LPs. Davy was my favourite too. Happy anniversary - I think it was Richard who was the lucky one :) x

    1. Ah, yes Davy Jones, I loved his accent, but you know I am a sucker for that nice English accent! HA! Richard is the lucky one? I will tell him you said so!

  7. The Monkees were big and had their show when I was in high school. I loved their show and I liked their music, although I really did prefer classical music (being a strange child). I've got DVD's of their first season.

  9. I most certainly was around in the Sixties...I spent half of the 60s being a teenager and the other half in my early 20s...and, as I'm sure you're aware from reading many of my tales on my own blog...I loved being the ages I was in the Sixties. Yes...the Sixties were a blast, indeedy! :)

Best wishes for your wedding anniversary...now you make sure you and Richard have a blast celebrating it, Kay! :)

    1. Thanks, MA! I said I was a kid and didn't think much of what was going on, but honestly, I did. Tried not to worry too much but I was always a bit of worrier (still am) but I didn't understand all the drug stuff (still don't.)

  11. FIFTY YEARS??? NOOOOOO! Oh, the Monkees were huge when I was a kid in school. My fave was Mickey Dolenz, although I liked them all. I'm surprised to hear they're still touring and recording. The new song matches their old style perfectly, I must say.

    1. I liked Mickey too, don't get me wrong, I liked them all but hey, you must admit, they must have gotten tired of all the girls screaming after Davy! I also think the new song matches them very well!

  13. I love the song, and I love Weezer! I know that I must have told you Peter Tork was always my fave. Thanks for this. I wish I could go see them.
I have a question. Do you know where I could buy Lionel's custard tarts (from As Time Goes By)? I've been to a lot of the online British goods stores but no luck. I'd like to try them! Oh, and happy anniversary!! You two are such a good couple!

    1. Hey Nan! Thanks for you well wishes!
Custard tarts? Not sure where you can buy them but I can tell you of Marie who blogs at theenglishkitchenblogspot.com
If Marie doesn't have it, then no one will!
Also, I love custard creams (they are biscuits or cookies that are great!) but I can't say I have ever had a custard tart in England! Look, I found a recipe...paste and copy this:

    2. I have seen a few recipes but I have a notion to buy them as Lionel does! I'll look at the blog. Thanks.

    3. There is nothing for it, you will just have to go to England and eat them there! Perhaps you might run into Geoffrey Palmer over there and you could eat them together! :-) OH, and Marie's blog, I love it and I think you will too!

  19. As a child, I was obsessed with the Monkees and I watched their TV show every single day (reruns back in the 70's). LOVE THEM! And I keep thinking I should find a way to view them so I can show them to Sophie. How could she NOT love them too?
